Commercial Project:
Settlers Estuary & Lakeside
The Settlers Estuary Village Falcon
Project was undertaken as a joint venture with architectural firm
CCN in 2005 and 2006. The principal role of Ecotect-Architects was
to provide solar design advice and drawings at the sub-division
level and to review the schematic design of the houses and
community building for the developments. The client was the
Settlers Group which is a prominent over 55s' residential village
developer in the Mandurah area.
A scheme was produced and it represented a
change in direction for the developers because it introduced
environmental design for the first time. Most of the design work
was produced on behalf of the joint venture with CCN CEO Greg
Salter who guided the process and dealt with contractual
issues.
The 200 block subdivision was master
planned as a high-rated passive solar solution. This encompassed
the houses facing north and collecting cooling breezes in summer.
Optimised glass areas, shading insulation and thermal mass were all
features of this schematic design for the development.
