Residential Project:
Denmark Rural House
The site is located in a beautiful rural sub-division near
Denmark. The gradually sloping open field suddenly falls away
towards the south to some spectacular natural bushland. It was
decided to locate the house on the crest of this slope, to be far
away enough from the bush in case of fire but close enough to enjoy
the views of the bush. The challenge was to create a passive solar
design facing north while still optimising views to the south. This
was achieved with a linear design with all living rooms and master
bedroom having northern and southern orientation. A large solar
pergola is located on the north east to create a warm protected
area out of the wind with oblique views of the bushland. The house
was constructed of reverse brick veneer walls, external colorbond
custom orb cladding and insulated tin roofing.
