The client wanted a Queenslander aesthetic for their house on
their rural block in Mariginiup. These elegant houses have large
verandahs, high ceilings, steeply pitched roofs and are usually
lightweight construction clad with weatherboards. Ecotect adapted
this style of house to suit Perth's Mediterranean type climate.
Thermal mass was introduced into the walls which are reverse brick
veneer and floors which are concrete substrate. Solar inserts were
introduced into the verandahs on the north and the Indoor/ Outdoor
room on the North East of the house as a thermal regulator. The
double storey house is a spectacular mansion located on the crest
of a hill and the heritage aspects of the Queenslander house have
been followed through to the smallest detail.
Environmental features - Solar pergola blades over the indoor
outdoor room. Solar inserts to the north of the living areas and
master bedroom. Apricus evacuated tube solar hot water
system. 200,000 litre watertanks.
