Residential Project:
Mundaring
This beautiful 2 Ha site slopes down in a westerly direction and
has a prominent granite outcrop running through the middle of it.
There are spectacular forest views to the west. The client wanted a
passive solar house that related well to the site. Because north is
at right angles to the main views, the house is located above the
granite outcrop and is skewed to face slightly up the hill so that
the optimum passive solar orientation is maximised while
obtaining excellent views from the living areas and kitchen. The
bedrooms are located on the south side of the house as there was a
requirement to make the master bedroom as dark as possible. A
raised timber deck encompasses the north western, western and south
western parts of the house, while a solar pergola covers the large
outdoor living area to the north. The materials used are a
combination of insulated rendered brickwork, stone and colorbond
roofing.
Environmental features - cedar solar pergola, gas boosted solar
hot water system, ecovents, ceiling fans, photo voltaics.
