Dalkeith Retrofit

The original home was simple, well built and in need of an upgrade to suit the larger homes that had surrounded the block over the years. Already facing north, the design team converted the home to a passive solar house. They enclosed the courtyard space to create an attractive atrium that provided the owners with a semi-outdoor living space that captured the winter sun and warmed the house.

The front of the house was transformed to better suit the location which is amongst the newer mansions in the area.

The renovation gave the home another 50 years of life for a fraction of the cost of rebuilding.
